Surround:AI gives the ultimate surround sound – scene by scene. Powerful processing from the DSP (Digital Sound Processor) analyses scenes in real time and then adjusts the surround effect in real time. By focusing on distinct sounds, such as dialogue, background music and sound effects, the RX-A4A automatically optimises the sound for incredible realism.
Aventage quality
This Aventage AV receiver boasts exceptional construction quality. Anti-Resonance Technology (ART) makes this AVR exceptionally resistant to mechanical and electrical interference. ART encompasses a more rigid, H-cross chassis, anti-vibration construction and even a fifth damping foot, helping give the RX-A4A its superb detail and resolution. With a power upgrade to 110 watts (at 8 ohms), the RXA4A is powerful enough for larger rooms and all speaker types.
High Slew Rate Amplifier for dynamic sound
High Slew Rate amplifiers are difficult to implement, but when engineered with Yamaha’s usual thoroughness, achieve superb results. Especially suitable for Hi-res audio sources, the RX-A4A’s amp provides a crisp, dynamic sound.
High quality digital components
It’s not just the mechanical side of the RX-A4A that has received Yamaha’s attention, the digital components are also of exceptional quality. The Qualcomm QCS407 system chips offers industry-leading compatibility, digital signal processing and seamless integration. Partnering this is the SABRE ES9007S premium DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertors). This offers exceptionally high signal-to-noise ratios, giving you ultra-low levels of distortion and crystal-clear sound – even at low volume levels.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for three-dimensional sound
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X use ceiling or up-firing speakers for three-dimensional and fully immersive sound. Whether it’s rain falling in a tropical jungle or the intense sound of overhead gunfire, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X put you in the centre of the action. DTS Neural:X offers an even more immersive sound, with a heightened sense of realism.
Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization for extra height, without the speakers*
As impressive as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound, it’s not always possible to accommodate the extra speakers. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization technology goes some way to help. Connect more – including a turntable
As well as seven HDMI inputs, this Yamaha AVR also has a wide range of other AV connectivity. Optical coaxial digital inputs are ideal for connecting older devices or upgrading the sound from a compatible CD/Network player. Three analogue inputs are perfect for Hi-Fi components, with the dedicated MM phono input perfect for plugging in a turntable. The Zone 2 output gives you the option of adding a second pair of speakers in another room.
Three HDMI outputs
Paired with the HDMI inputs, the RX-A4A boasts no fewer than three HDMI outputs. This lets you connect a TV and projector in your main room and a second TV in another room.
Compatible with the next generation of high resolution – 8K*
Featuring a trio of 8K compliant HDMI inputs and matching output, this Yamaha AVR is ready for the next generation of TV. If you’ve not yet made the jump to 8K TV, the sockets also handles up to 4K/120Hz signals, for the highest quality pass through. Upscaling to UHD 4K is also standard. *via firmware update.
Supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+*
The RX-A4A supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range video formats. These include Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. It also supports HDR10+, which enhances picture realism by sending dynamic Meta data to your TV. *via firmware update.

The latest HDMI support also marks a big improvement in gaming. 4K/120Hz and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support maximise resolution and clarity. Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) help eliminate lag and frame tearing, giving you a smoother, more responsive gaming experience. *via firmware update.
Surround sound, untied
For an easy way to reduce cabling, the RX-A4A offers the option of wireless rear speakers. Combine this receiver with the Yamaha MusicCast 20 or MusicCast 50 speakers and you can leave aside speaker cable connections. Perfect if you have a solid floor and struggle to hide speaker cable or if you simply want a cleaner style, wireless surround speakers cut down on the clutter.
MusicCast for music all around your home
The Yamaha RX-A4A is part of Yamaha’s hugely impressive network audio system, MusicCast. With MusicCast you control all your compatible Yamaha MusicCast products via your smartphone or even Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant by voice*. Play the same music on all the components or split the sound into different zones for different moods in each room; the choice is yours. Stream the best music services
Compatible with Amazon Music, Spotify Premium, Pandora, Napster, Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz, the RX-A4A is fully equipped for your favourite music streaming service. With Tidal and Qobuz already offering higher resolution playback, it’s now possible to find a streaming service that at least matches the quality of CD and, in some cases, even improves upon it.
Advanced networking including Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth
As well as MusicCast, the RX-A4A is also compatible with Apple AirPlay 2, letting you stream music from your Apple iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad or other compatible Apple device, wirelessly, around your home. Just ask Siri where you want the music to play. For a quick and easy connection with your smartphone, use the Bluetooth connection for easy music streaming.
